Conformal coatings are typically brushed, poured or sprayed on an electronic item to provide environmental protection (IP Rating}.

Conformal coatings based on RTV(Room-temperature vulcanization) silicone are transparent, waterproof, dustproof, thermally conductive and electrically insulating. The electrical insulation provided depends on the coating thickness. Higher levels of electrical insulation can be provided by potting the item rather than coating.
