Overview

The Internet Protocol suite is a set of communication protocols that forms the primary standard for Internet communications and most modern networking. This standard is more commonly referred to as TCP/IP (RFC 1122) composed separately of the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and IP (Internet Protocol) standards.

Operating Principles

The Internet Protocol suite is based around the Application, Transport, Internet, and Link Layers. For instance, HTTP of FTP would serve as application layers, TCP or UDP would serve as possible Transport Layer protocols, IP would serve as a probably internet layer, and OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) would be the link layer.
