Open

The term open when talking about a switch means that the switch is not connected therefore off.

To remember this and not get confused think of it this way:

We all like privacy, but to have privacy we need a closed space.

So to turn ON our privacy we CLOSE our door.

To turn OFF our privacy we OPEN our door.

Kind of dumb sounding, but it helps to remember when it matters most.
