A potentiometer is a type of variable resistor. Most potentiometers are like turnable like a volume knob, while others slide, like a light dimmer.

Commonly abbreviated as a 'Pot.'

Potentiometers can be found in two different scales, linear and logatrithmic. A linear pot will change by a constant value, while logarithmic Pots. will change by a power of 10.
