Rare earths are the metals in numbers 57-71 in the periodic table. Rare Earth Magnets are of two types: Neodymium and Scandium-Cobalt. They are among the strongest permanent magnets, sometimes possessing magnetism in excess of 1.4 Teslas. They are brittle and prone to corrosion, and so are plated or coated for protection.
