Zinc-carbon batteries are dry cell, primary cell batteries derived from the wet Leclanché cell.

Zinc-carbon batteries are often labled as "general purpose" batteries, such as standard AAA, AA, C, and D Energizer and Duracell batteries. Those those batteries are rated at 1.5V, and ideal cell potential for the chemical reaction is about 1.5V as well.
